Loveladies are finding their voices through the power of words, thanks to a transformative creative writing class led by volunteer teacher Mary Stagno. With support from the UAB English Department and funded by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, this class offers writing skills as well as healing.
In recovery, women often struggle to rediscover self-worth and confidence. This class gives them a space to create and believe in their potential.
Through poetry and storytelling, participants can reconnect with the self-worth Christ intended for them to keep, and learn to express their journey.
A shining example is this poem by Alexis:
From Him are all things
To Him are all things
Oh, the joy it brings
My heart, to know its King.
What am I but dust?
A vapor in the breeze
Yet He says I’m beloved
And He speaks to me.

On these holy sheets
I welcome the Dove
Which brings me great peace.
