It’s that time of year again! Spring is the air, flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and that spring cleaning list is breathing down your neck. Don’t let it overwhelm you! Our thrift stores are here to accept your donations of new or gently-used items, so you don’t have to worry about what to do with all that stuff that’s taking up space in your home.
Why You Should Donate to Thrift Stores
When you donate to our thrift stores, you’re doing more than just getting rid of all that clutter. You’re supporting our mission by empowering women so they can return to society as well-equipped women of God. Profits from our thrift stores cover 52% of our current budget, meaning more donor dollars go directly back to supporting the women in our program.
In addition to that, thrift store donations help the planet! By giving those items a second chance, you’re keeping them out of landfills! It also cuts down on the pollution and waste that comes with manufacturing new items that people would buy if not for thrift stores.
How to Decide What to Donate
For most people, it’s easier to declutter before you start deep cleaning. Just think, that’s less stuff to dust and sweep around! Here are some things to keep in mind when you start your spring cleaning checklist:
Closets
That sweater you didn’t wear all winter? Probably time to get rid of it. Those shoes you just had to have, but you’ve never had an occasion to wear them? Let them go to someone who will get good use out of them! All those clothes that you hope to fit into “one day?” Donate them now, and then you have a reason to get a new wardrobe when you hit that milestone!
Home Decor
We’re all guilty of picking up something at the store that we know will just look SO good on that shelf. But all that quickly adds up and you can find yourself with clutter instead of decor. Go through your home and edit your decor. Not only will this make cleaning easier, but it’ll also make your home look more curated.
Furniture
Maybe it’s time for an upgrade, or maybe that chair is just in the way. Now is the time to think about donating it! Less furniture can also make your rooms look bigger and less cluttered. Added bonus: You won’t have to worry about moving it to vacuum or sweep anymore!
Electronics
A lot of us don’t have the spare time that we wish we did. That means that some of our fun electronics just gather dust. Now is the time to go through those drawers and see what you’re ready to part with. That e-reader you got to make you read more? If you haven’t even turned it on in a while, it may be time to let go. That gaming console that your kids outgrew? Quit dusting it all the time and donate it!
