Everyone is busy during the Christmas season. There’s a lot to do and a lot of friends and family to see. The Lovelady Center, and our clients, are no different. We have a lot going on this December! Keep reading to learn more about what you can expect from us in the coming weeks.
Covenant Church Dinner and Concert
First things first, we’re so thankful for our continued partnership with Covenant Presbyterian Church in Homewood. Every year, they welcome our Loveladies into their congregation with open arms.
Covenant Presbyterian Church charters buses to bring all of our Loveladies and their children over to their church. Everyone is individually welcomed when they arrive at the sanctuary before a sit-down dinner with the congregation. For many of our clients, this is an especially impactful event. While our staff love and care for our clients, volunteers (like those at Covenant Presbyterian Church) often make them feel extra special.
After the dinner, our clients are invited to a Christmas concert by Charles Billingsley. This is such a fun and special night for our Loveladies, and it wouldn’t be possible without all of the amazing people over at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Our Tablescapes Dinner is another special night for our Loveladies in December. Tables are sponsored by groups or organizations in the community, like churches, banks, families, etc. These sponsors come into our center and decorate their tables with beautiful, over-the-top Christmas decorations. The sponsor also provides a meal for the women at their table, along with a small gift for each woman.
Our clients will also visit our thrift store to find a nice dress for the occasion. Their dinner is served by volunteers. This is truly an opportunity for our clients to feel special and celebrate their journey to becoming well-equipped women of God.
But we can’t forget about the kids! While the moms are out celebrating the season and their newfound life, their children are also treated to a special night. The kids visit our Kids Zone, where volunteers work hard to make sure they have a fantastic time during a big Christmas party. They usually enjoy a pizza night, gifts, and group games like a gingerbread-making contest and paper snowball fights.
We have even more going during the Christmas season. Santa Claus has been known to stop by our center more than a few times during the month of December. He hears from our client’s children on what they want for Christmas, and he’s always available for a photo or two!
Our annual toy drive also runs throughout the month of December. During this time, donors drop off gifts for our clients to give their children. Then, our Loveladies visit Santa’s Workshop to pick out the perfect gift for their children.
Last, but certainly not least, our Lovelady Manna food bank will continue to operate in the building next door to our center throughout the month of December. This new project aims to reduce food insecurity in our community with food boxes.
